Shanghai Advance Research Institute was jointly established by Chinese Academy of Sciences and Shanghai Municipality, to gear the need of the sustainable development of the economy in Shanghai and in China.  The institute aims at key technological research and development for national strategies with sustainable self-innovative capability and multi-disciplinary research strength.　Meanwhile, it promotes technological transfer and cross-disciplinary research.　Furthermore, it fosters a team of talents with innovative capability and entrepreneurship. 

 With the academic advantage of Chinese Academy of Sciences and comprehensive competitive advantage of Shanghai Municipality, the Institute will continue to make its contribution to the founding of Shanghai Pudong S&T Park Chinese Academy of Sciences, to the enhancement of the national innovative system, and to the building of self-innovative capability of Shanghai Municipality.　Thus, the Institute will manifest the leading function of technology in the promotion of city's competitiveness.
