At the invitation of the State Key Laboratory of Structural Chemistry, Prof. Tong Ren from Purdue University, USA, visited Fujian Institute of Research on the Structure of Matter (FJIRSM) in December, 2008. During the stay, Prof. Ren delivered two seminar reports titled "Diruthenium Alkynyls and Their Role in Molecular Electroincs " and "Renewable Energies Opportunities and Challenges for Chemists", and carried out detailed discussion with the research staff of FJIRSM.
Prof. Ren got his Ph.D at Texas A&M University in 1990 and did his postdoctorate work at Massachusetts Institute of Technology from 1991 to 1993. He is interested in biomimetic chemistry of organophosphorous compounds, including functional models of organophosphorous hydrolases and recognition of phosphate containing metabolites. Prof.Tong Ren has already published many influential research papers in some world-known scientific periodicals such as Chem. Rev. , Nano Lett , Chem. Eur. J. and Organometallics. At present, Prof. Tong Ren is one of the overseas experts of the international cooperation project attached to FJIRSM "Structural Chemistry of Functional Materials" advocated jointly by the National Bureau of Foreign Experts and the Innovative Team of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. During his stay at FJIRSM, Prof. Ren had extensive discussion on the progress of cooperative researches with the innovative team members in FJIRSM. |
