The 4th China-U.S. Workshop on Radio Astronomy Science and Technology Held in Shanghai

National Radio Astronomy Observatory (NRAO) and Shanghai Astronomical Observatory (SHAO), CAS jointly organized the fourth in a series of China-U.S. radio astronomy workshop, entitled "Scientific and Technical Drivers for the Next Generation of Radio Telescopes." The workshop was held at SHAO in Shanghai from October 14th to 16th 2015. More than 100 participants were invited to attend the workshop. Among them, 19 international participants came from NRAO, Princeton University, West Virginia University, California Institute of Technology, Brigham Young University, Denison University and University of New Mexico.

The workshop consists of general session and breakout sessions. There are 42 oral presentations and 15 posters in the general session, covering the on-going and future U.S. and Chinese radio astronomical facilities, and the related scientific research. And the breakout session includes 6 parts focusing on pulsar, HI, solar radio astronomy, VLBI, maser and radio astronomy technology and instrumentation, respectively. This workshop has strengthened collaborations between the U.S. and Chinese radio astronomy communities and several agreements on the follow-up cooperations have been reached. Next China-U.S. workshop will be held in the spring of 2017, in Socorro, New Mexico, USA.

As before, the workshop provided a forum for communications between U.S. and Chinese astronomers and engineers. Through presentations and thorough discussions, latest progress on the scientific research and technical development in radio astronomy was shared among all the participants.
