The local scientific research institute successfully realized a technology transfer of its self-developed new generation of solar cell to a Shenzhen company for industrialized production and use.

Shanghai Institute of Ceramics under Chinese Academy of Sciences spent over ten years on developing dye sensitized solar cell (or DSSC), a low-cost, environmentally-friendly solar cell belonging to the group of thin film solar. It has established the world’s first megawatt DSSC production line and got over 50 patents.

A new building of the institute has been installed with the new solar cell for practical use and demonstration.

All the key technology and materials of DSSC was transferred to Shenzhen Okowa Precision Automation Co for DSSC grand production, use and further commercial development.

The transfer signing ceremony was launched in the city yesterday. The total transfer fee is 100 million yuan (US$15.63 million).

Traditional silicon solar cell needs direct sunshine, or its efficiency is much poorer than DSSC under indirect sunlight or shades, experts said. (Shanghai Daily)
